Kevin Chok'an

GUITARIST

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Kevin started taking guitar lessons when he was in the second grade. Wanting to play the drums instead, this was at the urging of the parents. Then it was the night the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show that really inspired him to play the guitar. Guitar players and screaming girls, perfect. He never missed a lesson.

In junior high, and then in high school was when things got serious as he started playing in older bands that were already working clubs weekly. He could stay and play, then had to leave right after the gig as it was too many school nights in a row. A style was developing in these days, and his tasted in music began to get very diversified. It was R & B, Soul and Funk in the beginning. Then onto Jazz and Fusion, inspired by such players as, George Benson, Al Dimeola , Pat Metheny to name a few.

While in his twenties, the next move was to move to Los Angeles. He had only been there about six months when he was introduced to George Duke. After hearing him play on a demo for someone else in the studio, George asked Kevin to play some of his sessions. This started a wonderful string of session work with George, Al Jarreau, Howard Hewitt, Philip Bailey, Stanley Clarke, and few well-known Japanese artists such as Ideke Seijo. And George Duke was producing all of these records. Thanks to Mr. Duke, sessions work became and still very steady.

Then the road came calling, and Kevin started touring with artists such as George Howard, Philip Bailey, Patti Austin, George Duke, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, and Jeffery Osborne to name a few. And as of 1997, was given the musical director's position with Diana Ross, which is still held at the present.. all of this includes many major TV appearances on show including Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, David Letterman, and a host of TV specials for BBC London and NHK in Japan.

The credits speak for themselves, and this keeps Kevin among the dedicated, proficient and stylistic guitarists of today…
